A skilled Data Protection Officer plays a central role in ongoing Data Protection compliance...
Under the UK GDPR, certain organisations are legally required to appoint a DPO — for example, a care home that processes large volumes of health and care information about residents, which counts as large‑scale processing of special category data. Even when a DPO is not strictly mandatory, many organisations choose to appoint one to strengthen accountability and demonstrate good governance.
A DPO is responsible for overseeing data protection compliance, advising the organisation on its obligations, monitoring internal processes, and acting as the main point of contact for the ICO and for individuals exercising their rights. It is a role that requires independence, expertise, and a clear understanding of both the law and the organisation’s day‑to‑day operations.
Our DPO Training Course is delivered as two in‑depth workshop sessions (4 hours each), totalling 8 CPD hours. It provides a practical, business‑focused understanding of the DPO role and the mandatory requirements set out in Articles 37–39 of the UK GDPR.
Across the two sessions, your DPO will explore their legal duties, how to monitor compliance effectively, how to advise on DPIAs, how to manage data protection risks, and how to act as an independent point of contact for both the ICO and data subjects. The workshop format allows for discussion, real‑world examples, and tailored guidance based on your organisation’s structure and processing activities.
The course also includes customised, ready‑to‑use flowcharts for common scenarios — such as handling rights requests, assessing breaches, and managing DPIAs — giving your DPO practical tools they can apply immediately.
Every participant receives a certificate of completion worth 8 CPD hours.
Please note: anyone attending the DPO Training Course must first complete the GDPR Awareness Course, ensuring they have the essential foundation before moving into the more advanced responsibilities of the role.
By the end of this course, your DPO will understand:
The legal duties of a DPO — including independence, reporting lines, and required expertise.
Articles 37–39 of the UK GDPR — what they require in practice, and how to meet those obligations day‑to‑day.
How to monitor compliance — supporting teams, reviewing processes, and helping the organisation stay aligned with GDPR requirements.
How to advise on DPIAs — and when a DPIA is legally required.
How to manage and escalate risks — including breach assessment and reporting.
How to act as a point of contact — for both the ICO and individuals exercising their rights.
How to apply the role within your organisation — with tailored guidance based on your structure, data flows, and sector‑specific risks.
How to use the provided flowcharts — to streamline decision‑making and ensure consistent, compliant processes.
